Blackpool Imhof & Mukle Orchestrion Recording
By Nicholas Simons

The Blackpool Aquarium Imhof and Mukle orchestrion was recorded by Decca

in the 1960s. The record is called "Orchestrion Sounds. The Orchestrion

Organ 1879. ECS 2079."

The Blackpool orchestrion was located in the Birmingham Industrial Museum

in Newhall Street for many years until the local Council decided to build

a new hands-on museum. All of the mechanical music was stored, never to

be seen again. I corresponded with the museum's service and I was told

that all stored stock could be seen once a month at the storage building,

but all the musical instrumen=ts were crated and could not be accessed.

Good-bye to the Blackpool orchestrion!

If Paul Walsh wishes to experience the full majesty of an Imhof orchestrion,

he could join the Musical Box Society of Great Britain. We arrange visits

to the best private collections, and a few of our members do have such

instruments.
