Imhof & Mukle Orchestrion
By Ed Gaida

Age has a way of pushing things of the past in to a virtual _no recall_

zone. That being said, this bit of my memory of an Imhof & Mukle

Orchestrion may or may not be totally accurate...at least in the details.

In the summer of 1965, I lived with an English family outside London (in

Orpington) and frequently took the train into London to soak up culture.

One day I saw a retail store named Imhof's and it sold phonograph records

and sound equipment. Could it have a relationship with the German

orchestrion builder? A kind man in the store listened to my questions

and led me to an upper floor of the building. There sat a beautiful and

immaculate Imhof & Mukle Orchestrion, barrel operated. My guide could

tell me nothing about it.

I have often wondered what happened to that magnificent musical instrument.

Can you folks "across the pond" enlighten me?
