Arranger For 88-key Arburo
By Glenn Thomas

Mike Perry asks about someone doing new arrangements for 88-key Arburos,

mentioning late 50's and 60's rock and boogie woogie. The issue is less

one of capability and more one of economic viability.

I have produced quite a few Andy-Park-arranged Wurlitzer band organ rolls

and Wurlitzer Automatic Player Piano (APP) rolls that include the type of

music Mike Perry cites. They are very popular and usually sell out. This

is due to the large number of instruments using the rolls, plus strong

promotion and high-quality arrangements that cross the bridge between the

modern tune and arrangers of that type of music in the 1920's.

88-key Arburos just don't have the same wide market base to provide the

economic viability which roll producers or arrangers like myself and Andy

Park need. We are working on a boogie-woogie roll now for the Wurlitzer

165 scale that could be transcribed to other scales in the future. So

you never know!
