Custom Installations of Reproducing Piano Systems
By Allen Ford

I have read some recent posts about custom installations of reproducing
piano systems installed in unusual pianos and thought I would add this
post.

Doug Miller has spliced two small Ampico B stacks together to fit a
1920s Mason & Hamlin 6'2" piano and made a new scale stick to install
it. The Mason & Hamlin had had its mechanism removed in the distant
past. The installation is unusual in that he spliced a Duo-Art tracker
bar in an Ampico B drawer and made what may be the only Mason & Hamlin
Duo-Art.

He also modified Ampico valves to be a single valve system without
ball bleeds so the Duo-Art expression system will not suffer pressure
loss due to the ball bleeds. I heard this piano just before I went on
vacation in July. Hope to get over to Doug's this week or next week
for more music.

Doug had to splice two other small B stacks together to put in the 7'
Mason & Hamlin that once was in the Ampico Laboratory, as it was also
missing its original Ampico system.
