Mechanical Music in the Movies
By Mark Singleton

While we are on this thread, in the 1937 Laurel & Hardy film, "Way
Out West", what appears to be a Symphonion table top disc player
sits atop a safe in Mickey Finn's (James Finlayson) parlour.

Meanwhile, downstairs in the saloon, at the left of the bar, sits
a rare ca. 1905 double Caille machine, which appears to be the Venus
model(?). The window which displays the musical mechanism is clearly
visible in passing.

What appears to be a superbly restored version of one of the boys'
finest works can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/6sCPfrw1Gf4

Watch out for the gag centred around the beautiful National cash
register.

Enjoy!
