FS: Wurlitzer 146A With Pennsylvania History
By Bob Stewart

For sale: a 1924 Wurlitzer 146A band organ, #3665, with Pennsylvania
carousel history.

This recently rebuilt 146A with bells has a known history. It started
life as one of three ordered by the Pittsburgh Park Department in 1924
for use on their carousels. This one went to the Grandview / Mount
Washington Carousel.

In 1945, when the carousels were sold, it was purchased by Meritt Marks
who supplied equipment to small amusement parks. He sold it in 1946 to
R. S. Walters of the Cetlin and Wilson Carnival in Petersburg, Virginia.

It eventually ended up with Ralph Tussing of TRT Manufacturing in North
Tonawanda, New York, where it was sold to Matthew Caulfield in 1956.
The organ was operated by him at Seabreeze Park in Rochester, New York.
In 1962 it was sold to Clyde Lightfoot in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.
On the passing of Mr. Lightfoot in 1998, it was sold to Jim Arnold of
Trafford, Pennsylvania, who disassembled it and started restoration.

I bought it from Jim in 2004, in many pieces. The years had taken
a toll on it and many case parts were missing or rotted. All were
replaced in oak by an excellent cabinetmaker in Wisconsin.

The restoration was delayed many years due to retirement, a Missouri
move and then a Texas move. It was finally finished this year. It is
currently in Denton, Texas, and is priced at $16,000.

If you want a great band organ with a great history, please contact me.
