Seek Tubing Diagram For Welte Grand Piano
By Mike Walter

Hi all, I am helping a friend rebuilding a Kurtzman Welte Grand
piano. It is a transitional model between the original Welte system
and the "new" Welte system. The piano had been rebuilt in the 1970s
by someone who was not familiar with the Welte system.

One thing that identifies this system as unusual is that at the
back of the spoolbox in the drawer there is a lever that slides and
determines whether an 88-note roll is to be played or a Welte roll.
This moving block, a simple switch, controls eight tubes, I believe --
some are playing notes, others control expression or other functions.

Of course, the original tubing was not saved or noted by the former
rebuilder. Does anyone have a tubing diagram for this particular
system? The owner says that the piano was built in the 1930s; I
didn't see the serial number to verify that statement, but I doubt
if that is the case. I'll check on our next trip there.

Happy Holidays!
