What exactly is required for the conversion? Is it just remapping
various channels to other channels and/or converting to Type 0 MIDI,
or does the content need to be analyzed note by note?

I have hundreds of programs that I wrote for modifying MIDI files
and I probably have something that would do the job or could be
modified to do so.
