Organ Rally at New York Museum of Transportation
By Craig Smith

Hi Folks, I'm sure that you have all enjoyed listening to band organs

in carousels and portable trailers. Here's a chance to hear smaller,

hand cranked organs -- also known as monkey organs or barrel organs

or hurdy-gurdys.

The music for these organs is programmed on wooden barrels (with brass

pins) or perforated cardboard books or paper rolls (like a player piano)

and, more recently, using digital MIDI systems.

These instruments are not very common these days so it will be a treat

to hear a dozen or so organ grinders playing their organs this coming

Sunday, August 27th, from 11 AM to 4 PM, at the New York State Museum

of Transportation, which is located about a mile south of Scottsville,

New York.

This enthusiastic group will be playing their organs for all to enjoy

and they will also answer questions about how these organs work and

the life of an organ grinder 100 to 200 years ago. Come and join us

to hear the Happiest Music on Earth. For details and directions visit

http://www.nymtmuseum.org/

For a small donation, you can also tour the museum and take a ride

through the woods on an original electric trolley.
