Hi Bob, the Nicole Freres case finish is almost always shellac.
Build up several shellac coats and then French Polish.

There is usually a small ribbon tacked to the bottom of the front edge
of the glass cover. It's usually doubled lengthwise and it sticks up
between the cover and the case so you can grab the part that shows.
