Insurance for Mechanical Musical Instruments
By Mike Schoeppner

Seek Collectors' Insurance

Once again I am looking for a stand-alone insurance policy on my
pianos and organs. I would appreciate any referrals or suggestions.

Basically I want an "agreed value" policy that covers my separately
listed instruments against loss. It should cover me at home and when
I occasionally take an organ out to a rally. There is no paid or
commercial use of the instruments.

For over ten years I have been with American Collectors Insurance,
but after apparent changes at this company they have told me my
usage of my instruments probably doesn't fit their requirements,
and that I may be getting a cancellation notice.

This isn't intended to criticize this company, but I'm explaining
because I think other collectors should recheck their policy
no matter what company it's with.

[ Google AI offers this advice about instruments played in public,
[ as for busking:
[
[ "For busking musicians, consider specialist musical instrument
[ insurance to protect your instruments and also public liability
[ insurance to cover potential damages to third-party property or
[ injury to others while performing."
