Ampico Aficianados, I wrote to this list back on 25 May and have
seen no responses. I am 'hoist by my own petard' [*] and y'all were
too polite to say so!

I have now read Arthur Riblitz's passage on the Ampico for about the
43rd time and my re-roll disabling question is indeed covered -- and
the uprights and grands would normally do it. It's interesting that
my 1920 'early A' Ampico doesn't do it.

I don't yet know about the neighbor's 1920 'A'; the other published
manuals and tubing plans don't show it.
