I am much saddened to read of Spencer's passing. We corresponded many
times, and we met at several AMICA conventions. We had very similar
interests in digitising piano rolls, and Spencer provided me with
several useful computer utilities.

He was a brilliant programmer and archived a huge collection of rolls.
We may have disagreed on a few minor issues, but I held Spencer in high
regard for his pioneering work and substantial contribution to the
specialty field we both worked in. His enthusiasm and skills will be
much missed.
