Piano Roll Search "Jelly Roll Blues"
By Paul Johnson

Claud Cavnar asked [25.11.06 MMD] if the following pieces had been
cut into rolls. Here's some information I have.

(1) "Jelly Roll Blues"

At least two versions of this were cut into rolls. One version,
by Clarence M. Jones, was issued about 1915, the same year as the
published date. Also, the composer Jelly Roll Morton cut his own
version for the Vocalstlye label about 1924.

(2) "Pickles and Peppers" (Sheppard, 1906)

This was a very popular piece in it's day, so I suspect most labels
at the time covered this tune.

(3) "Ham And! (In Ragtime)", by Arthur Marshall (1908)

I'm not aware of an original roll arrangement of this being produced
in the ragtime era. However, I believe Hal Boulware of St. Louis,
cut a version for his "Classics of Ragtime" label. Some of those
rolls have been recut.
