E. and G. G. Hook and Hastings Tracker Organ By Tom Sendall
I have discovered a church pipe organ still operating in my
neighborhood that may interest MMD's readers. It is a 7-rank
stand-alone tracker organ dating from 1872 and built by the
E. and G. G. Hook and Hastings Company of Boston.
I say stand-alone because it is self-contained, not built into
its church's architecture, just plugged into its power supply.
If you had a fork lift, it could be moved elsewhere. Cautionary
note: fork lifts are not allowed in the sanctuary.
In speaking with one of the retired organists, she assured me
that it arrived at the church in many parts. The rebuilder spread
them out all over the pews during reassembly. Further information
can be found at https://www.stmarksclifford.org/about-us/
As part of the church's mission to ever serve the community its
front door is never locked, so I was able to step in to take some
photos, included here.
