French Language Piano Rolls Made for Canada
By John McClelland

[ Ref. 260201 MMD, "Archambault" French Language Rolls Made by QRS ]

Greetings All -- Well, not too much illumination on the Ed. Archambault
mystery. In fact, another helping of confusion!

My travels have uncovered three piano roll dealers in the Northeast
USA that had an interest in the French speaking population on both
sides of the border:

(1) The Champagne Brothers, of Lowell, Massachusetts (whose rolls
were punched by Vocalstyle), (2) Ed. Archambault, of Montreal, and
(3) the Otto Higel roll manufacturing plant, located in Toronto.

QRS bought the Higel plant in 1922, so what happened after the sale
is speculation.

What I find interesting is the boxes of old paper roll box labels that
Mike Walters found at the Buffalo plant. My mind immediately wanders
to some sort of customs advantage for imported rolls -- who knows?
It's similar to the Italian mystery roll producers in New York City
of the 1920s.

Anyway, I have included images of the three labels for your enjoyment.
