Hersheypark Wurlitzer 153 Band Organ and Carousel
By Cassidy Juraniec
Hello, I went on a trip to Hersheypark with my good friend, Tom
Iannucci, where I met up with a group of my friends there and we saw
the Hersheypark carousel and band organ.
The carousel was buit by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company [PTC] in
1919 and is identified as PTC 47. The carousel was originally located
within the middle of the park but was moved to a newly built pavilion
by the front in 2020. The original location is now a pavilion for
people to sit down and eat.
Their Wurlitzer Style 153 band organ is what provides the carousels
music. It sounds a bit flat and very much needs a tune-up but it still
sounds good for what it is.
I took an on-ride recording of the organ playing. I originally wanted
to get an off-ride POV [point of view] video of the carousel and the
band organ, but I did not feel comfortable doing so because there were
a lot of people on it.
Here is my video of the on-ride POV of PTC 47 and its Wurlitzer 153
playing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nu9Jj2Lfuys&t=16s
