I am now selling my demo MIDI-controlled Fairground Organ. This
instrument was designed and constructed by the seller, Andy LaTorre
of Franklin, North Carolina. It contains a live glockenspiel that is
MIDI-controlled.
The music contained in this instrument was arranged, orchestrated
(and some pieces composed) by the seller. In the past I used Master
Tracks MIDI Editor to create the files. I no longer arrange for the
organ due to my age and other interests.
It uses a Roland synthesizer to make all the pipe organ sounds, and
a live, mechanical 25-note glockenspiel for interest. The organ can
play any MIDI file arranged for this organ. The glockenspiel is on
channel #10. The self-powered speaker is loud enough for outdoor use.
The MIDI file player unit has over 50 tunes of which any one can be
selected. The tune can be started by pressing the "Play" button or
by using the door switch activation unit on the right side.
Door Open Circuit -- When this instrument is connected to a normally
open door switch, and the door is opened (the switch closes upon door
opening), the organ will begin playing the selected tune. The operator
of the unit can set the time control in the MIDI file player unit which
sets the time the organ can be played when the door opens, from a few
seconds to about a minute. During playing, the device ignores all other
door openings and shutting and only when the tune time is ended does it
reset and wait for another door opening. When this unit is deactivated
then the organ is controlled by the MIDI file player pushbuttons.
This instrument was put together as a demonstration unit for a local cat
museum for the possible purchase by the business owner. Unfortunately,
the person recently died and now this instrument is for sale. Also,
I am moving and don't have the room for the organ in my new place.
I am asking $4,500 for the organ. Video demonstrations of the organ
can be seen on YouTube; search for "andrew latorre fairground organ"
(eliminate the quotes). I am proud of my arrangement of "Blaze Away
March" which I arranged similar to a fairground organ recording
I purchased as a teen. "Wynken, Blynken, and Nod" is my composition
composed in the 1980's for a friend with a new baby. It's accompanies
a beautiful poem by Eugene Field.
