Aeolian Pipe Organ Rolls Arranged by J. C. Bunge
By Kasper Janse

Hello all, three of the four Aeolian Pipe Organ rolls we were looking
for were donated to us recently! They are special arrangements by 'our'
Julius Carl Bunge, who owned two Aeolian Pipe organs: #1163 installed
in his house "Kareol" in Aerdenhout, Holland (now in our collection),
and #1501 installed in his house "Seewarte" in Meggen (Switzerland)
(unknown if it's still extant).

These four rolls were issued with the prefix S, so they were Special
issues for this one customer. Also, they were made in 1928, so are
nearly the last rolls added to the catalogue. That's why they are hard
to find. And moreover, the name of the arranger is not mentioned on
the label.

Now we are still looking only for S1459 with music by Richard Strauss
(Salome) or maybe Debussy (Pelléas et Mélisande).

In his house "Seewarte" we found the four manuscripts by Mr. Bunge,
which he sent to New York in order to make these rolls: one manuscript
of Salome, one of the symphony by Mahler and two manuscripts of excerpts
from Pelléas et Mélisande.

We hope that a copy of S1459 is still in existence!
