I was antique shopping and found these player ads. The first is for the Tel-Electric player, which could be installed on any piano and controlled remotely via a small box. It's from the World's Work Advertiser, 1912.
The next is from Etude magazine, 1916, for the Kranich & Bach player grand. This is the foot-impelled player. It's very interesting to see, because the piano has no basement.
