PD1 Functional Test Procedure

Purpose: This functional test procedure (FTP) is performed to verify that the PD1 circuit board operates normally.

Limitations: This FTP doesn't apply dynamic (inductive) loads to the output ports.

1.0 Equipment and software needed:

1.01.  MS-DOS 6.22 operating system for PC.
1.02. An old '486-class (or Pentium) PC with floppy disk drive and hard disk drive
         A portable or laptop computer won't work (they have I/O problems running under DOS).
1.03.  "Punch" software by Wayne Stahnke
1.04.  WEB-format files with "test roll" data patterns.
1.05.  5-volt power supply for PD1 logic
1.06.  12- or 24-volt power supply for powering PD1 output ports
1.07.  A few LEDs with current limiting resistors
1.08.  A push button to simulate the crankshaft signal.
1.09.  Multimeter (V-O-M); a small d'Arsonval movement is best for fast response.
1.10   Oscilloscope (optional)

2.0 Setup:

2.01.  Install MS-DOS 6.22 on the PC and verify that the PC system operates normally.
2.02.  Connect a simple line printer to the parallel port, verify that the port operates normally using printer port address 3F8.
2.03.  Install the Punch software suite on the hard disk drive.
2.04.  Run program xxx.exe to verify printer port operation.
2.05.  Disconnect the line printer.
2.06.  Connect PD1 to printer port.
2.07.  Connect the PD1 to the power supplies and test fixtures (LEDs, button) as in sketch X1
2.08   Set PD1 switches and jumpers as in sketch X2
2.09.  Connect the PD1 to the printer port.  Apply 5-volt logic power.to PD1
