Bogatko and O-rolls
By Stephen Kent Goodman

Dear O-roll enthusiasts;

I must admit I am not a regular fan of O-rolls. I was one of those who cracked jokes about "O-roll machines play at three speeds, slow, slower and slowest". Musically, I always found the arrangements lacking "punch and pep" and to be sketchy at best with the solo melody.

BUT I MUST TELL YOU, I was absolutely floored when I heard George Bogatko's new arrangement of "Frosty the Snowman"!!

He has taken the O-roll into the direction of utilizing ALL of the musical potential it was designed to have, _without_ sacrificing the original stylistic qualities. In other words, if one of the old timers who originally arranged O-rolls was still alive and kept up with modern arranging thinking, plus had outstanding musical skills and Taste, he might come close to what Bogatko is doing.

I can only hope that he will arrange many 10 tune rolls for us with vacuum based midi systems :- )

P.S. No I'm not his publicist!

[ Editor's Note: I had a chance to listen to an 8-bit Mono, 11khz
[ copy of this tune on a sound card today and I was greatly entertained.
[ In tomorrow's digest there will be an article by George about it.
[ He has temporarily put the .WAV file on his FTP server. I hope to
[ get permission to put it on mine. Temporarily, you can FTP
[ the .WAV file:
[
[ ftp://ftp.intac.com/pub/intac/users/gbogatko/oroll.wav
[
[ More on this from George tomorrow.
[
[ Jody
