Johnson Band Organ in Salem Riverfront Carousel
By Dan Robinson

There was a discussion on MMD last month about the new Johnson Organ Co.
style 163 band organ at Salem's Riverfront Carousel in Salem, Oregon,
and it being simply too loud for the modern building it is in.

A news article in the Salem, Organ, "Statesman Journal" of December
14th reports that a Plexiglas shield is now in place to muffle the
sound and make the organ useable. An unfortunate move to have to make,
but at least the $68,000 organ will be played now. The article can be
viewed at http://news.statesmanjournal.com/article.cfm?i=34627

The article again makes reference to some unfamiliar tunes on style 165
rolls, such as "Chances Are." The Johnson Organ Co. in fact does not
arrange any 165 music, only 125 music. The article says that tunes
were sponsored by donors for $1,000 each, so Salem must have
commissioned some modern arranger to create custom rolls.
