Manivelle Reed Organ Plays Punched Book Music
By Mike Roseboom
In response to Dug North's post: It sounds like the instrument that
was being played was either an Organina Thibouville or a Coelophone
Orchestre. Bowers' "Encyclopedia" describes these instruments on
page 750. They were sold by the firm of Thibouville-Lamy, although
the Coelophone was actually invented by Claude Gavioli, of the Gavioli
Company of Paris. The Organina plays 24 reeds, while the Coelophone
plays 37 reeds. I found this video of a Coelophone on Youtube:

There is another instrument-also of Thibouville-Lamy-which is known as
the Organophone Expressif. A video of one of these can be seen at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQkq1lBzvcE
Hope this helps.
