Mechanical Music on TV
By Randy Hayno

I remember my favorite Batman episode co-starring Liberace and his evil
identical twin brother (also played by Liberace). Their headquarters was
an old abandoned piano roll factory. There was an Ampico grand piano and
a rare Seeburg "J" orchestrion with the Capitol building art-glass just
like the one pictured on page 236 in Player Piano Treasury.

They had the most advanced music roll perforator in the world. It seems
all you had to do is hum a tune into the microphone and it would
perforate the roll. They tied Batman and Robin up to the perforator and
put a nickel into the Seeburg and the perforator started running, pulling
them into it and they were going to be made into a music roll.

"Holy lock-and-cancel, Robin!"

Then Batman got the idea that if they sang just the right notes the
punches would go around their bodies and not get them. They did and came
out the other side okay.

Has anyone seen this show? I'd love to get it on videotape.
