Homemade Bellows Cloth
By John Kleinbauer

Hi All, If you tinker and build things like I do, here is a way to make
your own bellows cloth.

I was following the discussion about bellows cloth with great interest.
After reading about different types of cloth and their failure rates
I got cold feet. On my new organ I decided to use canvas coated with
GE Silicone II household glue & seal. I know this sounds bogus but
it works great!

First you glue the canvas on the bellows boards then work the Silicone
into the cloth with your finger. With canvas you work in a fine coat,
just until the surface feels smooth. In twenty-four hours you will
have an air tight bellows. I have a set of bellows using the above
method and they are now three years old and they are doing fine. If
you want to make some small actuators use Sports cloth (umbrella type
cloth) coated with two thin coats of Latex paint. You could also use
DURO black Plastic Rubber if you can find it.

The above method works for exhauster type bellows and actuators (vacuum
system). You can use some cloth from an old pair of jeans if you want
to save even more money.
