Presuming that slides are 35mm format.  Way back in the days if film,
they used to have "slide duplicators".  This was a self contained
attachment that took the place of the lens on a 35mm single lens
reflex (SLR) camera.  It had a "stage" into which you inserted the
original, and in essence, you pointed it at an appropriate light
source and took a photo of the slide.

Several years ago, I found one on eBay that had a Canon lens mount,
and it works fine with a full frame digital SLR.  It's pretty fast
to use (although tedious) but probably faster than a scanner.  It was
inexpensive, maybe $20 (although we won't talk about the cost of
a full frame digital SLR body!), and works pretty well.

However, as Joyce Brite said, I am not interested in such a project.

image of a copied slide.
