Ridiculous Prices on Piano Rolls
By Mike Walter

Hi all, Luke Myers recently posted some pretty exaggerated prices
for collections or even individual rolls on e-bay. I agree that
there are some individuals who try to prey on novices to the field.

But, I do have to say that once in a while a "special" roll comes up
in the postings that might attract high bids. One roll in my own
collection would probably get fairly high bids, not because of the
musical setting or the arrangement, but because of its connection to
the darker side of American History.

Under normal circumstances, when an uninformed seller places an
over-inflated minimum bid on a collection of rolls, you may wish to
send him a _nice_ note suggesting that his minimum bid is too high and
he won't get (m)any bids. You may also suggest that "garden variety"
88-note rolls generally attract bidders when the price is closer to
$1.00 per roll, if they are in relatively good condition.

Happy hunting!

Mike Walter
