Ridiculous Prices on Piano Rolls
By Andrew Gerber

Regarding Luke Meyer's post about piano roll prices; as with
everything, the value of something is what someone else will pay
for it.  The best deals on rolls are often never listed online;
they are found by being part of your local community and found
when an owner downsizes (or passes on).

I got ~450 Duo-Art rolls, 95% in near perfect condition, perhaps
about 10% long playing recuts, the rest mostly original, for $1000.
But I had purchased this gentleman's piano as well. It was nearly
a year _after_ I purchased the piano (when they were asking $10 a roll
or so) that I got the offer to "buy the rest" for the price closer to
$2 a roll.

I've seen one seller, out of the California area, repeatedly listing
long playing "program" rolls on eBay for upwards of $45 a roll! I
don't think he actually sells anything; he just keeps re-listing them.

Sooner or later, cooler heads prevail, and the price becomes more
reasonable. From time to time nice program rolls show up on eBay for
"reasonable" prices ($10-$15 a roll).
