Re: Thoren's Music Boxes (Digest 96.02.27)
By Hauke Marxsen

Hi  all,

Shari Decker's message in the Digest from 96.27.02 was:

> I'm looking for Thorens music boxes, either the cylinder or disc players.
> I think they were made in the 20's to 50's.  I have one already and I
> would love to start a collection of them, because there's no way I can
> afford to collect the Regina's!!! <grin>

Cylinder movements:

I have a lot of Thorens-Cyl.-Movements to sell. All movements have a moving cylinder and they are in very good condition.

2-tune/28-teeth: 29 US-$ each Melodies: Brahms Lullaby / Blue Danube
          Love Story / Raindrops
          Lara's Theme / Edelweiss
          Anniversary Waltz / Wonderful Copenhagen

2-tune/50-teeth: 99 US-$ each Melodies: Love Story / Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head
          Student Prince / Rio Rita

(1 US-$ extra for the key and for the set-screws / special-thread; plus customs; plus posting)

In May I will visit the USA, may be I can take some with me and post it there. In the case - if you live in Florida or in the northeast of the USA - may be I could bring it to you personally. In that case please tell me where do you live.

Disc movements and discs:

When Thorens stopped producing the 4.5" (AD 30) disc-boxes, Reuge continued producing it. In the Reuge-Tune-List from 1995/1996 I found, that Reuge offers around 45 different melodies. Movements and discs black or nickel-plated. If there are enough people interested in buying a disc-movement and discs, I can arrange a collectiv-order; I get Reuge-Products for the reseller price.

Minimum order: 5 movements and 10 discs per movement

Someone should distribute it in the USA. They have a better price, if the order is more then 30 movements. The price depends on: black or nickel-plated / how big the order is / how much the customs or tax-department wants / how the exchange-rate US-Dollar SFR is / the cost to deliver it. A rough calculation: A Movement - delivered to a buyer in the USA - could cost between 150 and 200 US-$ and a disc between 7 and 10 $. This is out of the German view; may be Reuge sells their products much cheaper on the US-market and you get it much cheaper in a shop for example in LA or NY; because Germany is a high-price-country. If there are enough people interested in, I will work out more details (tune-list and so on).
