Re: Wire Size Calculations
By Douglas K. Rhodes

I read with great interest Craig Brougher's response to my query regarding the nature of partials on a vibrating string. I must say at the outset that, if I figuratively raised an eyebrow, Craig, at your earlier comments, it is simply because I feel that some statements you have put forward are of questionable validity. I confess that it will take me some time and research to prove that in a decisive and coherent form. In the meantime, I _do_ appreciate your comments, and the experience behind them. Within the context of this forum, some of your remarks may now stand challenged, but not necessarily disproved or discredited.

One of my concerns in this situation, however, is that you are a prominent, published, well-known figure in the player-piano restoration scene (and rightly so), and it would be natural for many people to take your pronouncements at face-value. I have not set out to be deliberately iconoclastic, I am only inquiring after the truth. If I "raised an eyebrow" at a hypothesis that you advanced, I was being neither scornful nor implying that your comments were "stupid". I was in fact suggesting that one of your statements might be _invalid_, and was in need, at the very least, of greater elucidation. As one of our great Canadian politicians remarked once, if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
