Many thanks to Bob Conant for his kindness in filing in on my brief
daily convention report, particularly on the band organ rally.
This is an area in which I have little knowledge, and while I did
appreciate and enjoy this segment of the event, I really did not
grasp the full significance of what I was soaking up.
I did not know that Ken Smith had built that big Gavioli as a
replica. Even though I spoke with him during the display, he did
not reveal that he was the author of what I was looking at, listening
to, and occasionally getting leaky-eyeballed.
This was only my second band organ rally, neither as a participant,
and I had never really appreciated how much fun these instruments
are. The general public certainly did appreciate them also. I
suspect that the majority of those passing by were tourists.
Up here in Canada, very few ever got up here, so as a consequence the
probability of a band organ up here is pretty unlikely. Oh
well.......
Thanks Bob, for filling in with much more information than I was able
to glean from modest placards, and street conversation.
Has anyone else anything to offer to similarly fill in with more
details than I was able to provide in my modest daily reports?
The MBSI Convention is coming up August 28 to September 1 in Chicago.
I will not be attending (grrrr........). If these litle daily reports
are of interest, perhaps others among us might consider bringing their
portable computer along and do something similar.
Regards,
Terry
