Flexible Lap Joints
By Craig Brougher

Doug Rhodes asked about "flexible" hide glue. Actually, it doesn't have to be "flexible." Believe it or not, Hide Glue works just fine in lapping cloth around open hinge pneumatics. I have used it in Seeburgs, Duo-Art accordion pneumatics, Schultz pouch pneumatics, etc. It works just fine. No problem, and nothing to add to make it "flexible." Of course, consistency is important. You wouldn't want to apply the glue with a putty knife, or make it so thin that it disappears into the cloth, either. A nice, neat, smooth lap joint is all you need. Use as little glue as necessary to make a safe seal. It is the best there is.
