New Electrical Switches? I hope?
By Rob DeLand

I've sure appreciated this latest thread on potential fires in automatic pianos. I have a friend with a beautiful Steinway Duo-Art artcase grand who left a piano on (tempo 0) to answer a phone call, only to return a half hour later to a VERY hot motor which he couldn't handle with his bare hands as he tried to remove it from the piano - very scary, and certainly another near-disaster for this round of horror stories. The knowledge we have all gained from this thread has alread prevented more than one fire, I dare say!

My reason for writing however is to say I have an upright Stoddard Ampico with a worn-out push-pull switch which forces me to manually shut off the piano after the roll is through rewinding. I've asked everyone I know how to fix this, including Art Reblitz and Durrell Armstrong, and still no luck. I agree with Craig, we really need a solution to this problem, and I could use one right now.

thx,
Rob DeLand
