I am very positive on the trends to settle upon a unique acronym for
our group. In the past AMD has been used by many people, but sometimes
AMI could be found, too. These terms are very familiar, but they may
have other meanings to other people. AMD is mostly known as a
semiconductor producer that is a strong competitor to Intel. AMI is the
maker of BIOS for Personal Computers. It is always dangerous to use an
abbrevation that has another meaning for the rest of the world. I
remember e.g. the common usage of PC for Programmable Controllers.
After the introduction of PCs as Personal Computers, the industrial
controller community turned over to PLCs as Programmable Logic
Controllers instead.
On the other side I would personally favor the term "mechanic" instead
of "automatic". My suggestion therefore is MMML for Mechanical Music
Mailing List. This can be used simultaneously with the variant M3L.
I just want to deliver my ideas to this topic and I am looking forward
for other, more serious contributions.
Regards,
Walter
