New Brass Lamps with Fringe for Orchestrions
By Rick Cooley
Hi Folks,
I have dispaired of finding "original" lamps (single lamps on each side and do uble) for Weber, Losche, Frati, and similar European orchestrions. SO, I have decided to undertake a "reproduction" project. Many of the lamps were the same as or at least similar to the ones shown on page 710 of Bower's Encylopedia (a single unit) and on the Frati Sarasate, Model 12 (double lamps on each side---- page 421). I was offered a pair of the single lamps (as shown on page 710) for $1,500 (without fringe) at the recent MBSI Chicago meeting BUT only if I would promise to use them on a Weber. Unfortunately, I own a Frati and several Losche that need lamps but no Weber. I will undertake this project only if
(1) there is sufficient interest and
(2) if they can be produced as the originals were (brass) AND
(3) include a fringe of the buyers choice (a reasonable supply of choices are available and most importantly
(4) can be provided for a reasonable cost (less than $1,000 pair for singles and less than $1,500 a pair for doubles).
If I can generate sufficient interest, I will "front" the costs for sketches (hopefully taken from originals that I have been "promised" I could borrow). Then costs would be developed. I would think that the more purchased, the lower the individual costs. It would be then that all interested parties would be asked to make a commitment and make a small deposit. Any interest?????
Does anyone have an orchestrion lamp like that shown on page 710?? If so, please send a sketch with exact dimensions of each part to:
Richard C. Cooley, Sr. 700 Walnut Hill Road Hockessin, Delaware 19707

This would eliminate the need to borrow lamps from a friend (already arranged if needed.) So, if you have an interest or know of someone who has an interest, please let me know at

Thanks for your attention. Rick |
