I believe that it is due more to the physical design of the pneumatics, which tend to be "boxy", that is, when compared to a Seeburg pneumatic, they have less leverage. As described in Craig Brougher's book, there are several factors that determine the operating strength of vacuum pneumatics, assuming that the entire system is properly rebuilt. I do know that when your Pianino stack left my shop (In 1978), it was as airtight as it could have been - all wood was sealed, new leather gaskets, valve facings, etc..

You might consider a stronger spring tension for the reserve.
