Small Mechanical Organs
By John Sinclair Willis

Charles Kossman asked about small mechanical organs...

David Leach makes them in The Orchestrion Workshop at Springwood Music Workshops!

Having built well over 100 fairground organs he has now designed and built a number of small organs for the home/hotel market.

These instruments are MIDI controlled (using a MIDI data filer and floppy disks) and all the music is step-recorded so that it is VERY accurately played.

Even the opening and closing times of the pallets are taken into account when recording the music so you hear _perfect_ trills, etc.

The two-and-a-half-hour selection of music available so far includes Handel clock pieces and Mozart string quartets.

All the pipes are beautifully made and veneered in walnut, inlayed with boxwood and there is a variety of case designs.

It won't be long before these organs appear on David's web page...
