My Suggestion for a Bios Page
By Terry Smythe

Jody, I've sent through a message to MMD containing a suggestion for a member "bio" page as part of our future MMD web site. I can appreciate that this suggestion carries with it a substantial workload that may not be appropriate for you and your resources. Feel free to choose not to post this message if you believe it to be inappropriate.

Regards,

Terry

[ Editor's note:
[
[ I've intentionally included _BOTH_ messages. Thats because I think
[ the suggestion in the first message is a good idea and that I don't
[ think I'll have time to mess with it for a while.
[
[ On the other hand, several of you have expressed support for my
[ Web site and further one of you took the trouble to send me a
[ carefully edited (and glitzy) page to try out. Although I have not
[ posted that offerred Web page it the effort is appreciated. Further
[ some or all of the "stuff" in that Web page may get used once
[ get caught up.
[
[ I hope to be able to get things to where we could support user-provided
[ Web pages. I'd like to propose that I'll put up people's Web pages
[ with the following ground rules:
[
[ 1) I'll put them up 'when I get around to it'.
[
[ 2) I can take any or all of them off without explanation.
[
[ 3) Content smells biographical.
[
[ 4) Discussion of current areas of interest, including business
[ interests is OK.
[
[ 5) Multiple pages are OK.
[
[ 5) Pointers to other sites, including business related, are OK.
[
[ 6) Anything smelling like an ad needs to be in good taste an
[ on a seperate Web page so I can delete it easly, leaving
[ behind just your bio.
[
[ 7) Web pages generally consist of multiple files. All of the
[ files of a submission should be collected into a single "archive"
[ (a .ZIP file) and sent as an e-mail enclosure to "rollreq@foxtail.com".
[
[ 8) I'll consider other transmission formats (such as direct FTP) later.
[ For now I'm trying to conserve workload and this method is easy for
[ me. Mac users accept my apology in advance for leaving you out.
[
[ 9) Sending me multiple pages, pictures, etc, is OK, but the base page
[ must have the name "index.htm" (or index.html).
[
[ 10) In order to take care of the naming conflicts between differrent
[ subscriber's submissions, I'll put each set of pages in a seperate
[ directory on the server. In reality, I'll actually use the
[ name of the user (i.e. Jody_Kravitz would be the directory name
[ for myself). Most of you making submissions won't be able to
[ do testing with such long names. So do your testing with everything
[ in _some_ subdirectory name of your choosing and enclose a README.TXT
[ explaining the name of the subdirectory and anything else I need
[ to know. Include the README.TXT in the .ZIP file. DO NOT USE THE
[ BODY OF THE EMAIL MESSAGE FOR THE README.
[
[ 11) Netscape Gold, as well as some other tools allow editing Web pages
[ "offline" (in other words you don't have to have a Web site to
[ do the editing.
[
[ 12) If you don't know what I'm talking about, above, then please wait
[ until the few that do get their Web pages up. Then I'll let them
[ do the explaining. Otherwise it'll take too much time!
[
[ Jody
