Re: Roll Perforator Ideas
By Laurent Coray

To Peter Neilson, Craig Brougher and other roll perforating amateurs,

I'm working with a company who needs to make accurate cuts into 0.007 inch thick mylar sheets. We purchased a 25 watt CO-2 laser, SYNRAD# 95-421110-00. We built a stepper motor driven X-Y table which moves the material under the laser beam. It cuts paper even better than mylar, making a clean 0.003" line (depends on the focusing lens system; we just use a single lense with a 1.5" focal distance). We cut easily at 3 inch per second speed, and we can slow down and reduce the power to 5 watts, still making a beautiful cut. This laser system would be perfect for making a roll perforator, but the laser alone costs $5400. Maybe one can find a used one or a lower powered version...
