I received your list of rolls on Saturday. Thank you.
"Begin the Beguine" is No. 824.
Would you check your number 487 - Christmas Carols #4 again. I have
#487, Berceuse by Jocelyn. I wonder if there is a typo somewhere?
Another snag is #385. Is this really "O Come all ye faithful?"
You have 13 titles which I don't own. I have a large box of duplicates,
but they are packed away somewhere at the moment. I am installing a
pipe organ in my house and at the moment I have pipework and parts
strewn everywhere. I will eventually find the rolls and send you a
list. Maybe we can swap or something.
By the way, did you know a Mr. Belcher who lived in, I believe,
Clearwater? I visited him about 15 years ago and he owned a player
Hammond and had a nice collection of rolls.
And may I asked from whom you bought some Hammond rolls? I inquire
because the listing of Skinner rolls was a working copy that I did
years ago and must have sent to somebody. Naturally, I was amused when
I saw the list and my handwriting on it.So I was curious about how that
roll list ended up in your hands. I have since added to the list and
eventually will publish it, perhaps through AMICA or MBSI.
I never cease to be surprised at the Skinner titles that were recorded
for the Hammond. By the way, I have a friend who has constructed a
perforator that will handle organ rolls of any kind. Right now he is
setting the perforator to recut Moller rolls. Once we do a run of
those, then I will try to persuade him to set up for either Aeolian or
Skinner. I am trying to complete the roll libraries of each company, a
seemingly impossible task. But one has to start soon because this paper
isn't going to last forever. Please let me know if you'd be interesting
in getting involved with a Skinner recut project.
Wayne Stanke was right about Hammond never referring to their rolls as
Aeolian-Hammond. The rolls are NOT Aeolian, as you probably know. The
rolls are actually Skinner semi-automatic rolls that are wound on
spools with flange-type endings. But they are the same rolls. I have
taken the Skin ner rolls and laid them over Hammond and they are
identical. However, should y ou be tempted to purchase Skinner rolls
and wind them on flange-type spools, be aware that the blue-label
Skinner rolls are NOT compatible. The blue label ro lls are for the
Skinner automatic player. If you ever come across any of those , I
would be interested.
