To answer your questions:

  1. Yes.  Reuge now owns Thorens and is still building this movement;
     has a catalog of about 100 titles.  There is a price schedule such
     that, if memory serves, its more economical to buy about 3 at a
     time.

  2. Yes.  Not enormous value, but it would sell.  The price will
     depend to a great extent on its condition.  But why would she want
     to sell it if it came from her grandfather?  The value to a buyer,
     being based purely on dollars, is much smaller than the
     sentimental value to your daughter-in-law.  He must have loved her
     to want her to have this treasure.  Sure beats inheriting
     something big, useless, or that eats!

BTW, Reuge has dealers all over, but here in Fort Worth, Texas its quite easy to find them at Neiman Marcus.
