Epoxy Bridge Repairs

Epoxy can get rather messy, especially on wider cracks. All loose wood needs to be removed. Don't use the old pins, they are probably too short which is part of the problem. 1" (or even 7/8") pin should be used. When pins have drifted, it is hard to tell exactly where they go. I would fill the crack and drill new holes once it set.
(Bridge pins are set on a line between the hitch pin and plate pin). Marine-Tex has a high compression strength. Is this piano not worth a new cap? Are the bass strings still good, are the tuning pins tight enough to withstand the loosening and retuning of the strings? ? A twist in the string usually is needed upon reassembly.
Is this getting into an area where repairing/restoration borders jury rigging? Or sometimes, I suppose; it's as good as the piano needs to be.
