Re: Ampico Roll Images
By Walter Tenten

I am getting really excited when I hear of the chance to get the image of about 500 Ampico rolls.

My major motivation to gain access to these data is the fact, that I have built an electropneumatic controller that makes any selfplaying piano MIDI compatible. I have reported about this before in the digest. Therefore I would be interested in the version without velocity information, i.e. the expression should be still coded in separate tracks as in a real image of the rolls.

I think most other people would prefer the version with encoded velocity. Anybody that owns a soundcard (SB16 or better) can listen to the wonderful music that has been preserved on those rolls. This includes me, too.

The question I have in this area is:

Which algorithm did you use for converting the expression tracks
   into velocity information?

So, as everybody can see, my interest is really strong to get access to both versions. As the conversion from expression tracks to velocity has been done once, it could be repeated any time, maybe even with different or optimized algorithms. The other way around seems to be more complicated and in my opinion it is not yet clearly defined.

With best regards

Walter Tenten
