Chain Bridging on Old QRS Rolls
By Bryan Cather

On most older QRS rolls, I notice that the long note perforations are _not_ chain bridged. However, the sustain pedal perfs usually are. This seems odd to me, especially when the note holes are longer then the sustain holes. I suppose the thinking was that the only really long perfs would be the sustain holes, and that the close proximity to the edge of the roll would cause problems. However, I find there is also a lack of stability when you have long, blocked chords with several long perfs close together. Has anyone else pondered this? Does anyone care?(!) It just seems a bit odd. ...
