Matthew Caulfield and S. K. Goodman have submitted some valuable
information regarding the royalties due to composers and publishers
for mechanical music arrangements. This is a touchy issue and one that,
for the most part, has been ignored among mechanical music enthusiasts
in America.
In England there is a formal procedure by which anyone who is selling
music for machines must pay a royalty to an organization specfically
established for this purpose. The royalty fee is then passed on to
those who purchase the rolls for their organs, pianos, etc.
I believe it would be of interest to members of the Musical Box Society
International (and others) if the information thus far posted in the
Mechanical Music Digest could be summarized into a brief and cogent
article so that it could be published for posterity. If anyone is
