Robbie, this web-site is worth a visit. It has lots of info: fairs,
carousels, galopers, organs, recordings (downloadable samples), and so
on. It's one of my favourite sites!

[ Editors note:
[
[ It seems that most of the _categories_ of mechanical musical instru-
[ ments developed to meet a need in a commercial ("money making")
[ activity: atmosphere at a street festival, entertainment in a
[ restaurant, music in the dance hall, ballyhoo at the annual fair, and
[ -- probably the most beloved and glorious of all uses -- to accompany
[ the horses of the Merry-Go-Round!
[
[ The carousel simply isn't complete if it doesn't have an organ
[ playing. When people first hear the jolly sound of the fair- or
[ band-organ, it's no surprise that they say, "There must be a carousel
[ nearby!" We hope that the sound comes from a _real_ organ!
