Another coincidence -- at a Player Piano Group meeting last weekend we had a brainstorming session on the design of a possible roll-operated bagpipe. One objection was that the "drone" -- the double-note chord held throughout the piece -- would cause the roll to split lengthwise.
I suggested this could be solved by using Welte-style "lock-and-cancel" perforations! We also thought that Irish (elbow bellows) rather than Scottish (lungs) drive mode was preferable.
