Grinding Ivory Keytops
By John A. Tuttle

Pandora and I have been grinding ivory ever since we started doing
Showroom rebuilding. We start with (hold your breath) 150 grit silicon
carbide paper and work down to 400 grit. The polishing is done with
Ivory Brite and a buffing wheel.

In an effort to show the customer what a difference it makes, I take a
sharp knife and scrape the edge of a yellow-brown key exposing the real
color. The average amount of material we remove is approximately .007
inch.
