Greetings to MMD from Dave Saul. I'm a retired electronics engineer
(microwave/millimeter wave hardware and systems). My involvement with
mechanical music goes back about 35 years. I've been a member of AMICA
since 1969. My contributions to the print media are mostly out of print
now; the most widely disseminated was probably the section that I put
together on reproducing pianos for Dave Bowers' Encyclopedia of Automatic
Musical Instruments in 1972. (Can it be 25 years ago already?)
The learning process, of course, never ceases and I welcome this MMD
forum enthusiastically! I've been aware of MMD for some time. (Jody is
"local" to those of us in the greater San Diego area, and I first met
Robbie Rhodes at the 1973 AMICA Convention in Los Angeles.)
I've been receiving copies of the digest on disk, thanks to the
generosity of Ron Perry, with whom I had the pleasure of working at the
Navy Lab in San Diego before I retired. The opportunity to participate
in MMD was high on the list of enticements that motivated me to acquire
Internet capability.

[ Welcome, Dave, and I'm glad that you finally made it to the Internet,
[ "kicking and screaming", as you confided to me ! Ah well, once little
[ boys are in the bath water they love it !
[
[ The rest of your letter appears elsewhere in this Digest; with auto-
[ matic-subject-retrieval capability nearing I'm now splitting mail into
[ articles of usually one topic. So write often! -- Robbie
